Earlier this year, Meta introduced a new WhatsApp app for Windows desktops. The company is now bringing the same improved experience to Mac users, too, by launching a revamped version of its app for macOS.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Tuesday announced the new WhatsApp for Mac via its official Facebook post, as well as his Instagram Channel.

The new native WhatsApp for Mac comes with support for video and audio group calling and related interfaces. It allows you to make group calls from your Mac for the first time, connecting with up to eight people on a video call and up to 32 people on an audio call. You will also have the option to join group calls even after it has started.

Besides this, you can check your call history and choose to receive incoming call notifications even when the app is not open.

Further, the updated WhatsApp on macOS is redesigned to be familiar to Mac users, which is optimized for larger screens, providing a better visual experience. The new redesign also provides easy file sharing by dragging and dropping an item into a chat and allows you to view more of the chat history.

Lastly, the new WhatsApp app for Mac comes with end-to-end encryption, which means all the conversations that you have in these group audio and video calls will be kept private and not be accessible to anyone.

The new WhatsApp app for Mac is now officially available for download directly from WhatsApp.com.

WhatsApp for Mac requires macOS 11 or later. The company also says that the app will be soon released on the Mac App Store.
