Google on Tuesday announced that it is expanding the Bard YouTube Extension, which will allow its AI-powered chatbot, Bard to understand and answer questions related to YouTube videos.
Bard Extensions, which was launched in September, for all Google services and apps will now allow the AI chatbot to seamlessly integrate into Google consumer services like Gmail, Drive, Maps, YouTube, and more.
In the initial update, the chatbot had the ability to analyze YouTube videos but lacked in-depth analysis of the video content, a TechCrunch report says. With the recent update, Bard AI will now have an improved ability to analyze YouTube video content and respond to specific questions about the content of a YouTube video.
Besides providing specific information about YouTube videos, the recent update to Bard Extensions will also help users save time as it removes the need to manually search or look through videos for specific information.
“We’re taking the first steps in Bard’s ability to understand YouTube videos. For example, if you’re looking for videos on how to make olive oil cake, you can now also ask how many eggs the recipe in the first video requires,” Google wrote on the official Google Bard updates page while describing the new ability along with an example.
“We’ve heard you want deeper engagement with YouTube videos. So we’re expanding the YouTube Extension to understand some video content so you can have a richer conversation with Bard about it.”

How To Enable YouTube Extension In Bard
To enable the Bard YouTube Extension, you need to go to Bard’s homepage and click on the puzzle icon in the top right corner. Once clicked, you will see multiple options. Just turn on the toggle for the ones you want to use, including the YouTube extension. Once done, you can copy-paste a YouTube video link onto the Bard homepage and request the summary of the video.
Although Google’s Bard AI’s new YouTube feature is still in testing, it is available to all users.
Bard’s Recent UpdatesÂ
Google recently announced to make Bard available for more age groups in most countries with added age-appropriate protections.
“Bard is expanding access to teens in most countries around the world, starting with English. We’ve added age-appropriate protections, updated onboarding for teens, and developed experiences geared to empower exploration and learning with Bard,” Google announced on the official Google Bard updates page.
“We believe Bard can be a helpful tool for teens when they need a little extra inspiration and motivation on their ideas, hobbies, and plans, or when they want to better understand topics quickly in a style that works for them. Whether it’s learning homework concepts or getting support through big milestones like applying to their first job or preparing for college, Bard can help.”
