Facebook is poor mans tool  : New research shows that rich kids are likely to use Instagram and Snapchat than their less well to do peers who use Facebook.

There is no doubt that Instagram is more popular social media platform among the affluent teens compared to Facebook which is more used by the average to poor teens. However, Facebook still remains the most visited social network platform for teens across all five household income brackets.

On the other hand, there is a feed over Instagram named ‘Rich Kids of Instagram’ and it is used as a platform to inspire the rich kids to create envious moments with the picture they upload. Some of the pictures features young and filthy rich brats in their private jets and yachts, while the other shows them horrendous amounts of champagne on each other.

There is no doubt that in the years to come, this subject will become more famous and spoken about turning it into a sociological document. The data released by Teens, Social Media and Technology Overview 2015 this week concluded that more wealthier the teens are, their choice of preference for social media would be Instagram.

Instagram is considered the final choice of the affluent youth in order to show off their wealth and pride. According to a survey conducted by Pew Research Centre of American teens with ages ranging from 13 to 17, it was shown that the wealthier kids always go for Instagram as their social media platform.

The kids from households which had an income of less than US $30,000 preferred Facebook as their social media platform. 51 percent of the kids in those houses were vocal in mentioning their choice of using Facebook. In the lowest income bracket, 7 percent of them went for Snapchat, while 19 percent opted for Instagram.

When the same survey was conducted on the households with income more than US $100,000, only 31 percent of these kids used Facebook as their main social media network, while 15 percent opted for Snapchat and another 25 percent used Instagram. This clearly shows that Instagram and Snapchat are more popular among these cashed-up teens.

The study does not give any detailed reason as to why these affluent kids prefer Instagram. However, it appears clearly that these rich kids prefer to show off their wealth.

The research also shows that a majority of teens – 71 percent – use more than one social network at a time. The Pew Research Centre conducted the study based on 1060 pair of parents and youths across the United States during late 2014 and early 2015. Based on the study, it was found out that 71 percent use Facebook, 52 percent use Instagram, 41 percent use Snapchat, 33 per cent use Twitter, 24 per cent use Vine and 15 per cent use Tumblr.
