Amazon on Monday announced that it is bringing more than 100 original movies and TV shows from Prime Video will be available for customers to stream for free on its ad-supported streaming service, Amazon Freevee.
For those unaware, Amazon Freevee, previously known as IMDb TV, offers thousands of premium movies and TV shows, including Originals and free ad-supported (FAST) channels, available anytime, for no additional cost in several locations, including the U.S., UK, and Germany.
According to Amazon, more than 50 movies and TV series — including Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls, The Grand Tour, Mozart in the Jungle, Bosch, Modern Love, Savage X Fenty, Sylvie’s Love, Troop Zero, and Late Night — are already streaming on the Freevee platform. The company added that it will also be launching additional titles every month.
Starting May 26, customers will be able to stream the first three episodes of Amazon Original The Summer I Turned Pretty, A League of Their Own, The Terminal List, and Paper Girls for free exclusively on Amazon Freevee.
Further, the first full seasons of both Amazon Originals Reacher and The Wheel of Time will be available for streaming on Freevee later this year, ahead of each of their respective second season premiere this year on Prime Video.
Additionally, Freevee will also bring the hit series Goliath and The Tick, full seasons of Homecoming and Upload, and the sci-fi mystery The Vast of Night in May. These Amazon Originals will simultaneously remain available for streaming on Prime Video without ads, Amazon notes.
“The Freevee Originals FAST channel on Amazon Freevee has become Amazon Originals, featuring an even broader selection of Amazon Originals from both Freevee and Prime Video in a curated, live channel format,” Amazon said in the press release on Monday.
Amazon Freevee already produces original titles with original content, such as Bosch: Legacy; Emmy-winning court program Judy Justice; coming-of-age drama High School; docu-comedy series Jury Duty; performance special Monumental: Ellie Goulding at Kew Gardens; reality design series Hollywood Houselift with Jeff Lewis; comedy series Sprung; music documentary Post Malone: Runaway, heist drama Leverage: Redemption; spy thriller Alex Rider; and the sports docuseries UNINTERRUPTED’s Top Class: The Life and Times of the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers.
The streaming service can be accessed through Fire TV, Fire Tablets, and within the Prime Video app. It is also supported as an independent app on third party devices, including Roku, Samsung smart TVs (2017-2021 models), Comcast’s Xfinity Flex, Xfinity X1, Chromecast with Google TV, NVIDIA SHIELD and other Android TV devices, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles, as well as LG Smart TVs (2018-2021 models). The app is also available on iOS, iPadOS, and Android devices.
While the entire catalog of content available on the Freevee streaming service is free, the Prime Video standalone subscription starts at $8.99 per month.
